About the Host + Install Plan
What you need to know before you sign up.
How installation works
- You purchase the charger of your choice (we recommend compatible Level 2 models from Autel, Grizzl-E, or ChargePoint).
- We dispatch a licensed, ESA-certified electrician to your home to complete the installation.
- Installation is inspected and an Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) certificate is issued in your name.
- Your charger is then listed on our marketplace and you begin earning.
Installation fee
The total installation fee is $500.00 CAD + HST. This covers labour, materials, permit filing, and ESA inspection. The fee is amortized across your monthly subscription payments.
Early Cancellation Disclaimer
If you cancel your Host + Install subscription before the full installation cost of $500 CAD has been recovered through monthly payments, the outstanding balance becomes due immediately at the time of cancellation.
Example: If you cancel after 3 months, $59.97 has been applied to installation — the remaining $440.03 (+ HST) is charged to your payment method on file.

ESA Certification
All installations are performed by electricians licensed under the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) of Ontario. An ESA Inspection Certificate is issued for every installation, which may be required by your home insurance provider or municipality.

Pricing FAQ
Does Borrow My Watts take a cut of my session earnings?
No. We charge a flat monthly subscription ($9.99 or $19.99/month) — that's it. Your session earnings are paid out directly to your bank, minus standard payment gateway fees. We do not take any percentage of what you earn.
When do payouts happen?
Host earnings are accumulated weekly (Monday–Sunday) and deposited to your bank account the following Monday. You'll need to connect a bank account during host onboarding.
Do I need to buy a specific charger for the Install plan?
No — you choose your own Level 2 EV charger (we recommend OCPP-compatible models like the Autel MaxiCharger). We'll advise on compatible units and handle the installation. Charger cost is separate from the installation fee.
What if I cancel the Host + Install plan early?
The remaining unpaid installation balance (up to $500 CAD) becomes due immediately upon cancellation. Monthly payments on the $19.99 plan credit $10/month toward the installation cost. The installed charger remains yours regardless.
Is the ESA certificate required?
ESA certification is required for all residential electrical work in Ontario and most Canadian provinces. We provide this automatically with every installation. It may also be required by your home insurer.
